The Pantry provides food to qualified residents of Prince George’s County as well as emergency financial assistance to qualified residents of the City of Bowie. Since 1983, St Matthew’s UMC has faithfully supported Bowie Food Pantry:

At the church, you can help the Food Pantry directly by

  • Donating non-perishable, unexpired food and personal care items may be left in the shopping cart in the coatroom (just off the Narthex). Read what items the Pantry distributes here.
  • Donating money with your offering or via Online Giving, noting the Bowie Food Pantry Fund.
  • Participating in church run projects and special collections to benefit the Bowie Food Pantry.  Such events include things like making Senior Treat bags, dedicating part of a special services donations to the pantry, providing hygiene kits, or assembling Build-a-Bags.

You can help the Food Pantry directly by

  • Volunteering to shop, collect donations, help sort and pack incoming food, and place the food in clients’ cars as they drive up. Volunteers maintain a large garden and produce over $9,000 of fresh vegetables annually for clients.  Volunteer opportunities are announced in the Pantry’s newsletter—click HERE to see the current issue.
  • Gardeners are encouraged to bring their surplus harvest to the Pantry. Donations of fresh fruit and vegetables should be taken directly to the Pantry on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8-11 a.m.—please do NOT leave them at the church.
