“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth” – 1 John 3:18 (NIV)

St. Matthew’s is proud to be in the wonderful community of Bowie, MD.  What makes Bowie great is the people who live and work here who care about their community and fellow citizens.  We at St. Matthew’s care about those same citizens by serving/helping them in many ways.

We welcome non-church members, old and young, to participate in all our activities; there is a place for all with our service projects! We are always looking for new partners in mission and service. Please let us know if you want to get involved. For further information, email communityoutreach@stmatthews-bowie.org.

We reach out to those in need in many ways. You can
  • Prince George’s County Men’s Shelter – Prepare and serve a monthly meal
  • Church on the Move – Help our community together
  • Christmas in April – Repair a neighbor’s home
  • CROP Walk – Raise awareness and funds to address Food Insecurity
  • Helping Hands – Work together on monthly community and church projects
  • Transitional Housing – Support a family or individual who needs temporary, safe housing
  • Advent Project – Be a Christmas Santa for a homeless family or individual
Beyond the planned activities list below, as opportunities arise, we support our local community in various ways such as delivering roses to Seniors, participating in Bowie Festivals, and trash pickup along a Bowie city street or school. Additionally, each year we select several community endeavors to financially support. Some examples of past community support: 2022 Bowie Apartment Fire Victims, FISH of Greater Bowie, Bowie State University’s Dorothy Holland Student Emergency Fund, and Champ House Recovery, Inc.

St Matthew’s also reaches out through other SHEEP efforts with a Little Free Pantry, supporting the Bowie Food Pantry and holding an Annual Yard Sale, offering gently used clothing, furniture, household items, etc., at greatly reduced prices while helping our environment.
