SMUMC Staff and Volunteer Process as of August 24, 2023
Thank you for your interest in being a volunteer or staff member here at St. Matthew’s UMC! To become a volunteer or to be hired as staff, you will complete your own application at www.safegatherings.com .
*Click “New User” to fill out the form by making selections from the drop-down box. *Applicants can locate the organization by typing Bowie and then selecting Saint Matthews UMC – Bowie from the drop-down list. *You will be asked to provide two reference names, email addresses, and phone numbers on the application, so please inform your references to expect an email or phone call from Safe Gatherings. (The program asks for one of the references to be clergy, but it should be a church member who knows you well or a second professional reference.)
The Safe Gatherings program includes:
- Processing of two electronic references
- National criminal background check
- 7-year county of residence background check ·National and state of residence Sex Offender Registry check
- Applicant tracking for church administrators
- 2-hour online abuse prevention and boundary awareness training (accessible for review for one year)
No one at the church has access to your personal information but only the final report. St. Matthew’s is paying the fee for your background check, which is good for three years and then must be renewed. We appreciate your dedication to our children and youth.
