As we move into the Easter season, we will continue to “Collide with the Questions” but the questions will emerge out of our confrontation with the LIGHT instead of the darkness. We will consider the questions that emerge as we seek to LIVE FULLY in the resurrection Light of Jesus, to follow, to believe, to be an Easter people. The Epistle reading for the 5thSunday of Easter says, “You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, in order that you mayproclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” (1 Peter 2:9)
The trick here is to realize that resurrection life is NEW life…and that means change. Sometimes, we may be afraid to leave the familiar “tunnel,” our cozy darkness, and to step into the light. We may be afraid of what will be asked or required of us. After all, doesn’t being “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people” sound like a lot of responsibility?!
Change and uncertainty will always be part of human life. As we move together through the season of Easter we will collide with what it means to live in the Light, to follow the Light of Christ, even when that means having to change and let go as we move into the future—the new life!—that God has in store. We might feel afraid sometimes. But the Light of God always shines to create something new and beautiful, to enlighten us so that we can see our way forward, and to inspire us to courageously step into that Light with faith, hope, and love.
