Our Music Ministry is under the direction of Isaac Borocz, who is ably assisted by several adult volunteers. We encourage all those who are interested and who wish to express their love of God and Jesus Christ through musical expression to join one of our music groups.
Isaac Borocz’s musical education began in Elizabethtown, PA, his hometown, in 1963, and his first forays into church music took place there in 1966. He has studied music and musicology at Marywood University, Scranton, PA; University of Maryland, College Park, MD: The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC. He spent 2 years studying at The Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music, Rome, Italy, where his instructors included Mons. Domenico Bartolucci, director of the Sistine Chapel Choir, and Dr. Eric Arndt, organist of St. Peter’s Basilica, Vatican City. During that time, he served as music director of the Primatial Basilica of S. Anselmo in Rome. He has played recitals in the United States, including The Washington National Cathedral and The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Washington, DC; and in Austria, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Sweden and the United Kingdom. A Benedictine monk and priest for 15 years, he holds degrees in philosophy, theology and counseling. He has been music director at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church since 1991 and is president-elect of the Maryland-District of Columbia Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association.
