Chesapeake Chorale Concert presenting Schubert’s Mass in E Flat at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 17th, here at St. Matthew’s in the Sanctuary. This glorious late masterpiece, one of the final compositions of Schubert, will be performed with soloists and piano accompaniment. A reception will follow in Fellowship Hall. Confirmation Banquet: In our faith tradition, Confirmation is the moment where a child accepts for themselves the promises that were made by their parents and godparents on their baptism day. We invite you, the congregation of St. Matthew’s, to join us at our Confirmation Banquet on Saturday, May 30. There will be a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. in Fellowship Hall, followed by testimony from our Confirmands as to why they are taking this next step the next day.
Vacation Bible School Registration Time
G-Force Adventure Park: God’s Love in Action: VBS will be July 13-17 from 6:30-8:35 p.m. for children completing Preschool Three’s classes through Grade 5. The Mommy Daddy and Me class will be held from 6:30-7:45 p.m. for children who were Age 2 by September 1, 2014 and a parent. Start Movin’ and register by May 31 to receive the family discount. Vacation Bible School Leader Needs: Adults and youth completing Grade 6 will lead and assist the age level and center groups for VBS. Help for 1-5 days especially in Storytelling. Check opening on the yellow VBS staff list in the Tower of opportunity and sign-up or let Rev. Kathy know where you are feeling called to serve.
- VBS Teacher/Leaders Workshop is May 18 or 19 at 7:00 p.m. Adults and youth attend the session of your choice.
- Teen Assistant Workshop – How to be the Best Teen Assistant Pathfinder or Squad Leader will be held on June 25 at 7:00 p.m.
St. Matthew’s Housing Corporation Alpha House (transitional living for homeless people) in old Bowie badly needs a working lawnmower. Please call Dick Baker if you can help.
We will be honoring our graduating seniors at both services on Sunday, June 14. All graduating seniors are invited to attend for a special recognition. Please submit names of high school, college and graduate level graduates to Sharon in the church office by June 1.
Church Painting: During the months of May and June 2015, St. Matthew’s volunteers will be painting all the trim around the church windows, soffits and face boards. The Board of Trustees asks that you volunteer some time to help with this effort. Please contact co-leaders Dan Blades or Clyde Draughn to volunteer.
