Church, Politics and the Common Good: On-going 9:45 – 10:45 a.m.
A Call to Action: Women, Religion, Violence and Power by Jimmy Carter. The world’s discrimination and violence against women and girls is the most serious, pervasive and ignored violation of basic human rights. President Carter was encouraged to write this book by a wide coalition of leaders of all faiths. His urgent report covers the plight of women and girls world-wide.

Bible Study for Health: Wednesdays 10:30 a.m.–Noon, September through May .
Learn how to rely on God to help you meet your goals. Focus on your health through Scripture, prayer, lifestyle and exercise support. We will be using a study guide, taking turns leading our meetings, and sharing insights on our selected readings. This class will be using the book, Living the Lord’s Prayer by David Timms.
Conversational Spanish, Saturdays, 10 a.m.–noon. September 19 — November 21
Learn conversational Spanish. Learn basic vocabulary and grammar to communicate effectively in the Spanish Language. All age groups welcome.
Game Plan for Life, Part 1: Wednesdays 7:30-9:00 p.m. September 16-October 21
A 6-week experience to help tackle the key areas of life a man must grasp in order to be victorious. Based on a national survey of 700 men and the book by Hall-of-fame Coach Joe Gibbs. Part 1 focuses on Finances, God, Creation, The Bible, Sin, Addition and salvation.
Jesus in the Gospels: Thursdays 9:15-11:45 a.m, September 17 – April 28
This 30-week study invites believers to look at Jesus in each of the four Gospels and ask the question, “Who is the Jesus that you see?” Study the names, the places and the people, – and encounter the Jesus who is portrayed in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
The Gospel of John: Mondays choose 9:15 -11:15 a.m. or 7-9 p.m., September 21- December 21
John’s Gospel offers spiritually attuned, stunningly beautiful insights into the nature of Jesus and the meaning of faith. Witness signs and wonders, view contrasts of darkness and light, blindness and sight, death and life. Curriculum written by Carol Miller.
More Books Every Christian Should Read, 3rd Tuesdays of the month, 7-8:30 p.m.
Each month read a book that should be shaping the church, our faith and our engagement in the world. Class members give book reports followed by discussion.
Tuesday Morning Bible Study, Year-Round, 9:45 – 10:45 a.m.
Come study the Psalms using John Craghan’s Psalms for All Seasons. The format of the class is conversational and allows participants to “drop in” as they are able – in other words, come when you can!
Spiritual Discipline Coaching
Interested in deepening your relationship with God? Personalized and group sessions are available on topics such as family and small group prayer and how to better Know, Love and Serve God.
Adult Serving Groups
The “Angel Gang”: Tuesdays, 11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
This group’s mission is to draw on their common experiences as they assist others who are faced with challenges to their wellness. Everyone is welcome.
All are welcome to help lead worship though music. Choirs rehearse mostly during the school year in Room 124.

Disaster Response Team (DRT)
DRT primarily provides information, transportation, home repair, shelter, food, comfort and other critical support to St. Matthew’s families during times of community emergency. Environment Stewardship Committee
Join us and explore the responsibility of the church and its members to place a high priority on changes in economic, political, social, and technological lifestyles to support a more ecologically equitable and sustainable world for all of God’s creation.
M & Ms: First Monday of the month; 9:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Merry Methodists Meet Mondays Monthly for Missions. Various projects range form assembling/verifying kits and making cards for missions, assisting with Sunday school projects and other projects as they arise. Attendees bring a sandwich or lunch/dessert/coffee. Friendship and humor provided. Drop in when you can.
Men’s Breakfast : Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m.
All men are welcome to drop in for breakfast and fellowship. This accountability group often reaches out to serve the needs of the church and community. Location: Rip’s in Bowie.
Musical Theatre Troupe
St. Matthew’s Musical Theatre Troupe is a nonprofit organization dedicated to amateur musical-theater production and performance for the benefit of its community. Two fully staged musical-theater productions have been presented each year since 1996. Watch for audition and performance information.
United Methodist Men
UMM meetings are held quarterly on Sundays, November 1, January 10 and April 24 with lunch at 12:30 p.m. and program at 1:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. All men are invited to join us and help us build a men’s ministry.
United Methodist Women
All women are invited to UMW events and to join a circle for learning, proclaiming and serving opportunities. Come to the group that fits your schedule.
