CHILDREN & YOUTH
SAVE THE DATE! – On Wednesday, October 11th from 11:45 a.m.-1:00 p.m., families with young children are invited for story time with Chelsea! Bring your lunch as we have a picnic in the garden while reading a few stories and then playing on the playground. Come and meet new friends from the EEC. Rain plan is inside in Fellowship Hall.
YOUTH GROUP REMINDER! – There is no youth group tonight but all youth are invited and encouraged to attend the Annual Report Dinner. There will be lots of food and funny pictures. Stick around to help us clean up after! If you can help with set-up around 4:00 p.m., please check in with Chelsea.
INTERESTED IN BECOMING A MEMBER OF ST. MATTHEW’S? – Join Pastor Daniel and Isaac TODAY at 9:45 a.m. for our New Members Class. The class will take place in Room 222 and will last for 6 weeks. At the end of class, you will have the great joy of being a full member of St. Matthew’s UMC.
BLESSING OF THE PETS – Today at 2:00 p.m. bring your pets to receive a special blessing for the year. There will be a quick service and then individual blessings given! Come bring the creatures in your life that bring you lots of joy, and meet other’s friends.
CLARINET, CELLO, & PIANO – OH MY! – On Tuesday evening, September 26th @ 7:30p.m., Erin Snedecor (cello), Jan Murphy (clarinet) and Bob Boguslaw (piano) will present a recital of classical and contemporary music, including a bit of jazz and a tango. Don’t miss works by Johannes Brahms, Phyllis Tate, Huguet y Tagell, and Andy Firth. This concert will take place in the sanctuary, and as always is free and open to the public. Come one, come all!!!!
UMM CHILI COOK OFF – Come out and sample the culinary skills of your friends at the Chili Cookoff on Sunday, October 1 in Fellowship Hall. Non-competitors will be invited to vote for their favorite chili. Cost is $5.00 dollars and you can taste as many different chilis as you want. Cornbread, drinks, and other items will be provided. Doors open at 12:30 p.m.
HURRICANE EFFORTS CONTINUE! – On Saturday, October 7th, we will be assembling 100 flood buckets as part of our church wide day of service. We are in need of two specific items. Please drop off in the coat room in the box marked Hurricane Donations by Tuesday, October 3rd, so we can see what is still needed for purchase. Please bring the following:
- 8 oz aerosol air freshener spray, any scent
- 50 oz liquid laundry detergent, HE or regular
BIG IMPACT with a small commitment: Are you looking for a way to serve your church family that fits your schedule? Join us for an informational luncheon on Sunday, October 8, at 12:30 p.m. where Rev. Daniel, Chelsea, and Isaac will share how you can help every month or two during Sunday worship services.
SWEATSHIRTS NEEDED -The Mission Committee invites you to provide sweatshirts for the children of Bowie Food Pantry clients. We are to provide them in the Fall rather than at Christmas so the children will have them when the cool weather starts. Cards are in a basket on a table in the narthex, each with a child’s name on it. Please pick one up and return your sweatshirt, giftwrapped, with the tag securely attached, no later than Sunday, October 15. Thank you for your generous support of local families who need a “hand up” from time to time.
- MATTHEW’S MUSICAL THEATRE TROUPEis presenting “Steel Magnolias”. Longtime friends in a small Southern town fill the hair salon with laughter, gossip, and tears. As hair is done, women’s lives unfold and show the meaning of true friendship. Shows are in Fellowship Hall onOctober 13, 15, 20, 21, and 22. The times are 7:30 p.m. for Friday and Saturday nights, and 3:00 p.m. for Sunday performances. Ticket prices are $8.00 in advance and $10.00 at the door. Tickets will be on sale after both services starting on October 1st.
ELECTRONIC GIVING – If you would like to make today’s offering using our electronic giving service, please refer to the ELECTRONIC GIVING CARD that is located in the pocket of the pew rack in front of you.
