SAVE THE DATE – NEXT SUNDAY, August 27th and bring your backpack to worship! – Whether you worship at the 7:30 a.m. or 10:00 a.m. service join us for our Blessing of the Backpacks. If you are a student, teacher, principal, or you simply carry a backpack to and from work, bring it worship and receive a blessing for the year to come.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL – After the Blessing of the Backpacks at 10:00 a.m., come to Fellowship Hall for ice-cream and to meet our teachers for the 2017-2018 year. Learn about all of our education opportunities and figure out how you can plug in and learn more about God in the year to come.
TEACHERS’ MEETING ON AUGUST 27TH– All of whom are serving as teachers in the upcoming year, whether it is with children, youth, or adults, whether it is on Sunday morning or during the week, are invited to meet August 27th at 9:00 a.m. for a quick meeting. Let Chelsea know if you are not able to attend. If you are interested in teaching and have not already connected, get in touch with Chelsea.
UMW EXECUTIVE BOARD will hold a lunch meeting at noon on Sunday, August 27 in Room 126. This is our kick-off meeting for the fall activities. Every circle leader (or a designated person from the circle) is asked to be present.
BE AN AWESOME OFFICE VOLUNTEER! – St. Matthew’s is assembling a dynamic new team of volunteers to assist our new office manager.
A church office is at the center of church life and the primary contact with members and visitors. Working in our Church Office may be a great way for you to be more involved at St. Matthew’s. As an Awesome Office Volunteer, you will contribute to the creation of a welcoming and professional atmosphere for staff, members and visitors. Even a small contribution of time and energy can make a big difference.
How much time and energy is involved is largely up to you. Some tasks require only a few hours per week and some can even be done at home. For more information, please contact Lisa Wilson, S/PPRC Chair (email@example.com).
SERVICE ON THE GREEN – Join us again as we have our “Worship on the Green” (outdoor service) on Sunday, September 3rd (Labor Day Sunday) at 10:00 a.m. at Sussex Park (grassy area across the street from the Bowie Library). The 7:30 Garden Service will be held as usual.
CHURCH PICNIC- Come share a meal with your church family outdoors for a Church Picnic on September 3rd, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. Feel free to bring your food to the church kitchen before the 10:00 a.m. Worship on the Green, or after the 7:30 service. The church will be providing hamburgers, hotdogs and beverages.
SAVE THE DATE FOR FALL TEA! – All women are invited to a tea on Saturday, September 9, at 2:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Bring a friend and share an afternoon of fellowship and tea fare! Babysitting will be provided; there is no charge to attend.
KERYGMA BIBLE STUDY THIS FALL – There will be a Kergyma study this Fall, led by Rick Miller, with drop-ins by Carol! We’re doing Your Bible: The Study Begins, a study which will be good for folks who are new to the Bible AND folks who know quite a bit about the Bible. We will have a book, but will spend lots of time with questions and discussion. There will be nine two-hour sessions, beginning September 29th. Registration and books ($14) are available before and after the 10:00 service from Rick.
