We welcome Stephanie Anna Hixon the Executive Director of JustPeace as our speaker this morning. Her colleague, Chaplain David Smith, coordinates the Soul Care Initiative (sponsored by JustPeace), a mission and ministry with returning veterans. Stephanie is a consultant and facilitator with extensive experience with strategies and processes that assist institutions and communities to foster environments of mutual respect and regard for all persons. She seeks to integrate best practices in alternative dispute resolution with principles of faith and spirituality, communication theory and group process.
YOUTH GROUP – The Youth Fellowship is no longer headed by Laura Ross, but it is still alive and well! While we redefine the role for our Youth Director and hire for the position, Chelsea and Pastor Daniel, along with a few volunteers, will be jointly filling in. All youth and parents are invited for pizza at 12:15 p.m. in Fellowship Hall to give feedback and help vision for the future direction of youth group and other activities!
PROJECT WARM HEARTS – We will prepare Christmas stockings for 285 children whose parents are incarcerated in the PG County facility in Upper Marlboro. The stocking tags are available in the narthex. Green tags are for girls and red tags are for boys. Gift suggestions are on the back of the tag. Please WRAP all of the gifts and put them into a grocery store or newspaper plastic bag with the Child’s tag on the inside of the bag. Questions? COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING MEAL – TODAY, at 5:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Turkey, ham, drinks and paper products will be provided but bring your favorite Thanksgiving dish to share. Invite a friend and come feast on good food and time shared around a table.
INTERFAITH THANKSGIVING EVE SERVICE will be held THIS Wednesday, November 23, 7:30 p.m. at Temple Solel located at 2901 Mitchellville Road in Bowie.
ALTAR GUILD NEEDS YOUR HELP! – As we move into the Advent and Christmas Season your Altar Guild is challenged to create beautiful, meaningful worship spaces in the church. We invite all members of the congregation (acolyte age and older) to join us on the following Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m: November 26, December 3, December 17 and January 7.These are especially busy and creative days when the Altar Guild needs many more hands to accomplish the work of transforming our worship space. If you have questions or need more information, please call the church office.
HOLIDAY FOOD BASKETS – Place donations for Christmas Baskets in the cart in the coatroom through Sunday, December 11. Especially needed items are French-fried onions, snacks (e.g. crackers, nuts) gravy, canned sweet potatoes, mini-marshmallows and cream of mushroom soup.
Christmas Project for Bowie Food Pantry – The Food Pantry is in need of NEW UNWRAPPED warm sweatshirts, hats, scarves, gloves, footballs and basketballs. Check the baskets in the narthex for cards with items needed. Bring your UNWRAPPED gift back by no later than Sunday, December 4.
CHRISTMAS POINSETTIAS – The Altar Guild is offering red or white poinsettias for sale at a cost of $12 each. Dedications can be made in honor or memory of a loved one or special person. Envelopes and dedication forms may be found in the narthex. Complete the dedication form and enclose the form and cash/check payable to St. Matthew’s in the Poinsettia envelope. Place the envelope in the offering plate or drop it off in the church office. Deadline for ordering is Wednesday, December 7. Contact Sharon Heidenreich at 301-262-1408 with questions.
