CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PROGRAM – Rehearsal begins today to start preparing for the Children’s Christmas Program on December 11th. All children and youth are invited to come to the Sanctuary from 10:20 – 10:40 a.m., for the next few weeks to join our participants in rehearsal! On December 11th we will lead the congregation with songs and the telling of the Christmas story. You don’t want to miss it! Parents, please pick your children up in the Sanctuary for the next few weeks.
MILITARY/SERVICE REMEMBRANCES DISPLAYS – If you wish to share your items for the rest of the congregation to view, please feel free to bring them on November 20th and set up a display on a table in Fellowship Hall. Set your displays up before/during the 8:30 service so they are ready for the coffee hour in-between services.
Music for an Autumn Afternoon – Join us TODAY at 4:00 p.m. for a recital in the Sanctuary. Come hear music on organ, piano, flute, hurdy-gurdy and perhaps a surprise or two. Since it is only five weeks till Christmas, as has become our tradition, the first Christmas music in the Sanctuary will conclude the program. All are welcome.
Join us for a new Adult Class Next Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in room 224. Carl Long will begin “Prepare the Way” by Pamela Hawkins in preparation of Advent.
HOLIDAY FOOD BASKETS – St. Matthew’s is supporting the Bowie Food Pantry with items for Holiday Food Baskets. Donations received by TODAYwill be used for the Thanksgiving baskets. Items that come in after today through Sunday, December 11, will be used for the Christmas Baskets. Especially needed items are French-fried onions, snacks (e.g. crackers, nuts) gravy, canned sweet potatoes, mini-marshmallows and cream of mushroom soup.
COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING MEAL – In just a few short weeks we will gather with family and friends for a Thanksgiving meal. NEXT Sunday, November 20 at 5:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall, come and gather around the table with your church family for an evening of community and food (what more could you ask for!) Turkey, ham, drinks and paper products will be provided but bring your favorite Thanksgiving dish to share. Invite a friend and come feast on good food and time shared around a table.
INTERFAITH THANKSGIVING EVE SERVICE will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 7:30 p.m. at Temple Solel located at 2901 Mitchellville Road in Bowie.
Christmas Project for Bowie Food Pantry – The Food Pantry is in need of NEW UNWRAPPED warm sweatshirts, hats, scarves, gloves, footballs and basketballs for the teenagers of their clients to give as gifts. The gifts will be displayed on tables for their clients to “shop” for their children. Check the baskets in the narthex for cards with items needed. Bring your UNWRAPPED gift back by no later than Sunday, December 4.
CHRISTMAS POINSETTIAS – The Altar Guild is offering red or white poinsettias for sale at a cost of $12 each. Dedications can be made in honor or memory of a loved one or special person. Envelopes and dedication forms may be found in the narthex. Complete the dedication form and enclose the form and cash/check payable to St. Matthew’s in the Poinsettia envelope. Place the envelope in the offering plate or drop it off in the church office. Deadline for ordering is Wednesday, December 7. Contact Sharon Heidenreich at 301-262-1408 with questions.
The Denmark, Teter, Miller and Ebaugh families would like to thank the St. Matthew’s family for all your prayers for Tiffany Teter. She passed away at home on October 31st after years of treatment. Please keep her young daughters in your thoughts as they adjust to this change in their lives.
