Adult Sunday School is alive and well this summer! Today’s FaithLink class focuses on the topic of “Tragedy in Dallas.” The killing of five police officers at a demonstration in Dallas against the police shootings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota reminds us that racism is a persistent and heartbreaking reality in the United States. Join us today from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. in Room 126 for a discussion of how our faith can help us to seek peace through justice and equality. Next Sunday we will investigate Brexit – the United Kingdom’s recent decision to leave the European Union. Please consider attending.
Children and Family Ministries is sponsoring a night at the Baysox game for all St. Matthew’s families and friends on Saturday, August 27. The game starts at 6:35 p.m. and there will be fireworks afterwards. Tickets are $8 and will be on sale after each service in Fellowship Hall. Last chance to buy tickets will be Sunday, August 21st.
Blessing of the Backpacks and Ice-Cream Party! Start the school year off right with a blessing of your backpack! If you are a student, teacher, administrator, or just someone who uses a backpack on a regular basis; bring it to worship on August 21st at the 10:00 a.m. service. Following the service we will have a back to school ice-cream party in Fellowship Hall. All are invited to come and enjoy ice-cream, celebrate the start of school and learn about the Sunday School offerings (for children and adults) for the fall.
Bowie Food Pantry in desperate need of cereal and NEEDS our help. With 90+ clients each week, they are giving out over 100 boxes of cereal. Please help by contributing several boxes of cereal – all kinds are needed and appreciated. As a reminder, all types of non-perishable foods are needed during these summer months when donations tend to be low. You may place your items in the shopping cart located in the coat room. Thank you for your continual support.
Worship on the Green. Join us again as we have our “Worship on the Green” (outdoor service) on Sunday, September 4 (Labor Day Sunday) at 10 a.m. on the green strip across the street from the Bowie Library. See the enclosed flyer for more details. The Garden 7:30 service will be held as usual.
Church Picnic. Come share a meal with your church family outdoors for a Church Picnic on September 4th, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. This year we will be having our meal in front of St. Matthew’s facing Rte. 450! Feel free to bring your food to the church kitchen before the 10:00 a.m. service, or after the 7:30 service. The church will be providing hamburgers, hotdogs and beverages.
