Today’s FaithLink class focuses on the topic of “Brexit.” Britain’s vote to leave the European Union has repercussions both inside and beyond the United Kingdom. What are some of the consequences of this decision? How does our faith guide us as we consider the concerns raised by Brexit? Next Sunday’s topic will be Pokmon Go.
ADOPT a student at Tulip Grove Elementary School (K-5th grade). Chelsea (our new Christian Formation Director) has met with the principal of Tulip Grove this past week and a new partnership has begun! With the start of school around the corner we have the opportunity to adopt a group of students. If you are able to shop for a backpack and school supplies for a student, find Chelsea for a list of specific supplies. Take the school list and bring filled backpacks to church NEXT Sunday, August 21st. Help these students have a great year, with supplies for students who normally could not afford them!
Children and Family Ministries is sponsoring a night at the Baysox game for all St. Matthew’s families and friends on Saturday, August 27. The game starts at 6:35 p.m. and there will be fireworks afterwards. Tickets are $8 and will be on sale after each service in Fellowship Hall. Contact Mark Behringer or Chelsea Spyres for more information. Last chance to buy tickets will be NEXTSunday, August 21st.
Blessing of the Backpacks and Ice-Cream Party! Start the school year off right with a blessing of your backpack! If you are a student, teacher, administrator, or just someone who uses a backpack on a regular basis; bring it to worship NEXT SUNDAY, August 21st at the 10:00 a.m. service. Following the service we will have a back to school ice-cream party in Fellowship Hall. All are invited to come and enjoy ice-cream, celebrate the start of school and learn about the Sunday School offerings (for children and adults) for the fall.
Bowie Food Pantry thanks you for your generous response of boxes of cereal. It was greatly appreciated and is on their way to clients. The pressing needs now are: canned vegetables (NOT beans or corn), soup, and canned fruit. A few items are still needed for the backpacks: 1”, 2” and 3” binders, large glue sticks and graph paper. Please place your donations in the shopping cart in the coatroom. Thank you for your ever faithful support of the Pantry!
Worship on the Green – Join us again as we have our “Worship on the Green” (outdoor service) on Sunday, September 4 (Labor Day Sunday) at 10 a.m. on the green strip across the street from the Bowie Library. See the enclosed flyer for more details. The 7:30 Garden service will be held as usual.
Church Picnic – Come share a meal with your church family outdoors for a Church Picnic on September 4th, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. This year we will be having our meal in front of St. Matthew’s facing Rt. 450! Feel free to bring your food to the church kitchen before the 10:00 a.m. Service on the Green, or after the 7:30 service. The church will be providing hamburgers, hotdogs and beverages.
