We will be setting up a large tent in the median area of Annapolis Road and Sussex Lane. Worshipping in this spot will emphasize our desire to connect with the community and reflect our inclusiveness to all who pass by or decide to join us. There will be a short service (about 45 minutes) with fellowship and light refreshments after. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy the outdoors with the St. Matthew’s community. See you there!

BLESSING OF THE BACKPACKS
Gracious God, we lift to you today these students. They stand here ready to receive your blessings and they commit themselves to study and learning in the school year ahead. We ask your blessing on each of them. We also ask your blessing on these backpacks. They will hold the school work of each student and will be carried from home to school and back again. As these students carry these backpacks, may they be reminded of the love and care of this congregation that surrounds them each school day. We pray, as well, for the teachers and administrators in our schools. May they also be sustained by your blessing. May they be reminded that this congregation embraces their call to teaching and learning and surrounds them with love and care. We pray in the name of Jesus whom we seek to follow day by day.
After the Blessing of the Packpacks, the Light from our altar will lead our youngest family members to Preschool PraySchool (Potty-trained 2 year olds—Kindergarten); a parent is asked to accompany PraySchool children to sign them in).

MESSAGE “Dare to Believe” -Robert Lesche
ANNUAL CONFERENCE REPORT -Carl Long
ANTHEM “I Wanna Be Ready” -Traditional Spiritual, Arr. Rosephanye Powell
Leader: From the beginning, God entered into covenant with the human family: with Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham and Sarah, Moses, Deborah, Ruth and Jeremiah.
People: Through baptism, Jesus Christ calls us into the covenant and makes us ministers of Christ’s righteousness.
Leader: All Christian ministry is Christ’s work of outreaching love. It demonstrates a common life of gratitude and devotion, witness and service, celebration and discipleship.
People: All Christians are called to be Christ’s servants in the world, to the glory of God and for human fulfillment.
Leader: The Church, as the community of the new covenant, participates in Christ’s ministry of grace.
People: It stretches out to human needs wherever service may convey God’s love and ours.
Leader: In our ministry of servanthood is this ultimate concern:
People: that all may be renewed in the image of their Creator, and that all Christians are called to minister in deeds and words that heal and free. Amen.
