UMYF (or Youth Group) meets Sunday evenings from 6:30-8:15pm. We begin together in the Sanctuary for a brief worship service, then divide into Middle School and High School for the rest of the evening. Our youth plan seasonal retreats, hold church lock-ins and lots of parties. But we are more than just a space for fun, we also serve through mission trips both locally and far away, and participate in worship at St. Matthew’s on a regular basis. Any questions contact Chelsea Spyres: chelseaspyres@stmatthews-bowie.org Middle School UMYF is for all youth in grades 6-8. Each meeting, their counselors guide them through a Bible study at the beginning and then they work on service projects, play games, or just spend time hanging out for the remainder of the meeting. Each summer our Middle Schoolers have the opportunity to join a mission trip to Washington, DC through The Pilgrimage to learn more about urban poverty, hunger, and homelessness. High School UMYF is for all youth in grades 9-12. Each meeting, they begin in Covenant Groups by age to discuss different aspects of their faith. Then they move into small groups with mixed age levels to do Bible study before moving on to service projects, games, or hanging out. Our high schoolers spend a week each summer with the Appalachia Service Project, a Christian home-repair ministry that encourages relationship building and allows our youth the opportunity to serve those in rural Appalachia by making their homes warmer, safer, and drier.
