Children’s Church

Children’s Church

St. Matthew’s offers a Children’s Church during the Sunday 11:00 a.m. service.  This is for children ages 7 to 5th grade who don’t always understand what is going on in an adult worship service.

After the Scripture is read, the children gather at the altar and follow the Light into Children’s Church.

Our Children’s Sermon is based on the sermon that Rev. Ginger preaches for the day, so that families can gather together after the service and talk about what they learned.  After our sermon, we recite the Apostle’s Creed together, pass the peace, and end with our Children’s Church prayer.  To write our own prayer, we looked at the Lord’s Prayer as an established pattern of prayer and then we created our own prayer based on those patterns.  It reads:

Hi God.
You are cool and excellent.
Please help us to be spiritual, to be happy, to have gratitude, to share and to be giving to others.
God you are so great and wonderful.
Thank you for creating us and loving us.
Amen.

Children’s Church will be every Sunday except Communion Sundays (the first Sunday of the month), which we encourage families to partake in together.

Please pick up your child(ren) in Room 126 at the end of the service.  All of our Children’s Church adult volunteers have been cleared through our Safe Sanctuaries program to ensure the safety of your children.

We will post about our Children’s Church experience on our Family Ministry Blog each week – be sure to check it out and see what we did!
