Maundy Thursday Worship, April 13, 7:00 p.m.
“Maundy” Thursday comes from the Latin mandatum novum (“new commandment”) and focuses on the institution of the Lord’s Supper and the importance of the new commandment of Jesus: Love one another as I have loved you. As was the custom at the time, the Last Supper was a traditional Passover Dinner, the Seder. We will celebrate communion in Fellowship Hall and then continue our worship in the Memory Garden as we recall Christ on the Mount of Olives, his agony in the garden and his arrest.
Prayer Vigil is a time of continuous prayer, beginning with the arrest of Jesus through the crucifixion. We hope to have a person or persons continually in prayer from Thursday, April 13 at 8:30 p.m. through Friday, April 14, at 6:00 p.m. Persons wishing to participate are asked to sign up on the sheet in the Tower of Opportunity in the narthex. Please indicate whether you will come to the church or pray at home. If you are coming to the church, please leave your phone number so that you can be provided with the special access code that will be used for entry during the Vigil, as the regular access codes are not active after 9:00 p.m.
Good Friday Worship, April 14, 12:00 Noon
Join us for a service based on the Seven Last Words of Jesus on the Cross. This quiet midday service will include scriptures and meditations, a few hymns and prayers, and will last approximately 30 minutes.
Good Friday Worship, April 14, 7:00 p.m.
The custom of walking the road to Calvary in Jerusalem goes back at least to the fourth century and is known as “The Way (or Stations) of the Cross.” We remember the somber events that occurred during the final day of Jesus’ earthly life, placing ourselves in the very action of those last fateful hours. The service will consist of scripture, hymns, anthems and prayers and will last approximately one hour. Please join us for this powerful and prayerful service.
