- Christmas schedule
Advent activities are planned and waiting for you. A new activity this year is an informal soup and salad dinner sharing time on Saturday evenings starting at 5 p.m. This is an alternative worship experience for all ages to welcome in the season. Locations may vary within the church from week to week, so watch for emails or signs placed in the church. The Altar Guild will be busy decorating the church and would be thrilled if you wish to help! Check your bulletins for those dates. This year, Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday. The staff and Worship team have planned for a different number and times of services that will hopefully meet more family schedules. There will be one service in the morning at 10:00 a.m. There will be two services in the evening, a family-centered service at 5:00 p.m., and a more traditional Christmas Eve service at 8:00 p.m. New Year’s Eve services will be 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.2
2. Christmas Card
Congregation members are again welcome to share their Christmas greetings with all in the church in a Congregational Christmas Card. Donations will again go to fund the Bowie H.S. Scholarships that we have been providing for the past few years. Send your greetings to all and help a deserving student at the same time.
3. Leadership Training Day
Incoming and current team/committee leads are invited to a Church Leader training day at St. Matthew’s on Saturday, January 20, 2018. The session will go from 9:00 a.m. to about 3:00 p.m. with lunch provided. Coffee and some sweet rolls will be there to greet you in the morning. ALL leads are heartily encouraged to attend. We will cover general team leadership topics, church leadership topics, and some specifically St. Matthew’s topics (e.g., where is there a storage area you can use, how do you get something put in a bulletin or the mid-week messenger, or what do all the other teams do). To top it off, we will also be presenting the St. Matthew’s Ten Commandments of Team Leadership. You won’t want to miss that! Please email Jane Thessin at firstname.lastname@example.org so that we can accurately plan lunch needs.
4. Picture Directory
Yes, we are going to do it! In January and February 2018, we will be working on taking photographs and collecting information to prepare a new picture directory for St. Matthew’s. We will be taking pictures in-house. There will be stations set up in Fellowship Hall to take pictures. When the pictures are taken, we will also be verifying your data so that we can print the most recent and correct information. We want everyone to participate; you do not have to be a “Member”. We want all of our church family to be included. If you are not able to or do not want to have your picture taken, other options are bringing in a picture and we will scan it in or send us a picture in an email that we can include.
