Last year 114 Walkers raised $13,547 in the Bowie CROP Walk to Fight Hunger to help neighbors in need near and far. But with your help in recruiting more walkers and sponsors we can make the 2014 CROP Walk the biggest and most successful ever!
This year’s Walk will be Sunday, October 5. The Walk will begin and end at St. Matthew’s United Methodist, 149900 Annapolis Road, (plenty of parking) and loop around to return to the church. The Walk will begin at 1:00 p.m. with a very short Kickoff Program (five minutes tops!). Registration will begin at 12:15.
“CROP” stands for “Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty” (some of you may remember it as the “Community Hunger Appeal of Church World Service”). As with thousands of other communities all over the country, Bowie has held a CROP Walk to Fight Hunger for over 25 years now.
It’s a wonderful way for us to come together to call attention to the needs of our hungry sisters and brothers and to raise money to help. And anyone can designate the money they raise to go to any recognized hunger fighting or development organization, be it a denominational agency or something like UNICEF. Undesignated monies go to Church World Service hunger fighting and development ministries. We also ask for Walkers to bring canned goods for the Bowie Food Pantry. Once again, 25% of the money raised by the Walk will go to the Pantry, which last year meant over $3,000.
Please designate a Contact Person from your congregation or organization through whom we can funnel information and materials! Please send the name of that person to Rick Miller, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Rick can fix you up with materials to publicize the Walk, such as posters, pamphlets, fact sheets, bulletin inserts, a DVD, etc. – and those important Donor Sheets, with which Walkers gather sponsors and collect their sponsorships.
Please find it in your heart to help our neighbors in need through the Bowie CROP Walk – together we can make a real difference in the lives of hungry women, men and children.
