Safe Sanctuaries is an overt expression of a faith community in making a congregation a safe place where children, youth, seniors, and vulnerable adults may experience the abiding love of God and fellowship within the community of faith. St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church is committed to ensuring that all children and youth involved in church ministries may participate in an environment that is safe and secure. To that end, we have a Safe Sanctuaries Plan and have anyone who works with children and youth fill out the Sexual Misconduct Questionnaire. Our Safe Sanctuary Plan and forms that we use can be found on this page.
St. Matthew’s has also instituted a Safe Sanctuary Addendum. The purpose of basic safe sanctuary is to provide a safe environment for all persons as much as possible so that no one is harmed. The Addendum addresses the possibility that someone who is on a registered sex offender list wishes to worship at St. Matthew’s. There are times and places where registered sex offenders will not be able to worship; however, there are places and personnel to work with the best practices recommended and where registered sex offenders can worship. We have an addendum that adds to our basic safe sanctuary policy to cover this potential. The document and a covenant letters can be found on this page.
