United Methodist Women
Epiphany Brunch - January
2008
The
St. Matthew's UMW held an Epiphany brunch on Saturday, January 5,
2008. About 65 women from the church attended; delicious food and
attractive decorations were provided by the Evening Circle.
The program included Jena Cochrane reading the first verse of the
hymn "What Child is This?" followed by the playing of the hymn by
Helen-Jean Talbott on the flute and Isaac Borocz at the piano. The
program also included the installation of the UMW 2008 Executive
Board and a key note speaker, Rev. Monroe Wright of Lanham UMC, who
spoke on the topic of "Sharing Jerusalem."
Sharing Jerusalem is a grass-roots campaign that was launched in the
Washington, DC area in the Spring of 2006 to educate, organize, and
activate mainline churches in support of a solution to the
Arab-Israeli conflict—specifically, a two-state solution that would
include a Jerusalem that is "shared" both politically between Israel
and Palestine and religiously among Jews, Muslims, and Christians.
