After a hiatus of several years, the Annual Prayer breakfast of the Baltimore Washington Conference took place Saturday, March 12. While initially planning for only 50 attendees, the response was overwhelming, as over 200 men filled every available seat in the fellowship hall at Calvary United Methodist Church in Annapolis.
We were led in song and in prayer. After breakfast, the Reverend Kevin Smalls, Queens Chapel UMC, was the guest speaker, and he delivered a powerful message to the men there to live out the fiery baptism of Christ. The energy in the room was extraordinary, and there were credible calls to double and quadruple attendance next year. Hopefully, Bob and I will be able to travel to next year’s event with a few more of St. Matthew’s men.
Rodger Findiesen, UMM president of Calvary UMC, spoke briefly of the day two years ago when he announced at services the formation of UMM at his church to an overwhelming response. Their vibrant UMM ministry ably hosted the event this year.
More so than ever, it seems the time is now for men to seek common fellowship, share sacred space, and reclaim our neglected spirituality.
